초록

수면은 인간의 생존에 필수이지만 편안한 잠을 지속하는 것과 관련한 문제는 흔히 발생한다. 성인 3명 중 1명은 권장 수면량에 미치지 못하는 경험을 하며, 이는 신체적 질병부터 정신 및 인지 장애, 업무 집중력 저하, 일상생활 활동의 잦은 중단 등 다수의 문제들로 이어진다. 초기 삶에서 발생하는 트라우마 경험은 종종 평생 건강에 영향을 미칠 수 있으며, 이러한 측면에 수면 장애 및 불충분한 수면 등이 포함된다. COVID-19의 출현으로 미국과 전 세계 사람들은 격리될 수 밖에는 상황에 직면하고, 그로 인해 이전에 가졌던 행동 패턴, 타인과의 일상 교류, 규칙적인 수면 습관 등에 부정적 영향을 받았다. 팬데믹의 스트레스 가운데 수면을 통해 육체적, 정신적, 정서적 상태의 활기를 회복하는것이 중요해졌으나 현실적으로 이는 더 어려워졌다. 의료 전문가들은 건강한 수면 패턴에 대한 치료의 새로운 방안들을 연구하고 있다. 음악은 건강한 수면패턴 회복을 위해 적절한 방안이 될 수 있다. 음악은 손쉽게 이용할 수 있고, 개인에 맞춰 조절할 수 있기 때문이다. 또한 음악은 큰 비용 사용을 방지할 수 있고 심각한 부작용의 위험 발생을 피할 수 있다는 측면에서 효율적이다. 본 연구의 핵심은 음악이 어떻게 수면에 영향을 미치는 가를 다루었으며, 음악 및 음악치료를 지속적으로 적용하여 수면 패턴을 최적화할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다.
