Effets du bruit sur l'anxiété liée à l'expérience du repas au restaurant

L'environnement sonore a un impact sur le bien-être. Alors que la plupart des recherches liées au bruit se concentrent sur l'audition, le sommeil, la performance et la santé cardiovasculaire, les enquêtes sur les effets néfastes du bruit sur la santé mentale montrent des preuves contradictoires en ce qui concerne la dépression, l'anxiété et le stress chronique. Les recherches sur le bruit et son impact sur les activités quotidiennes, notamment les activités collectives comme les repas au restaurant, font défaut. Notre étude examine la relation entre l'exposition au bruit et l'anxiété dans l'environnement intérieur d'un restaurant, en explorant la valeur prédictive de la sensibilité individuelle au bruit, de la gêne sonore et des facteurs de personnalité sur les niveaux d'anxiété autodéclarés lors d'un repas au restaurant. Cette enquête aux méthodes mixtes utilisant des mesures validées avec un échantillon aléatoire (n=274, >18 ans), prédit des scores élevés de sensibilité au bruit et de gêne sonore correspondant à des niveaux d'anxiété accrus, et en outre, des niveaux d'anxiété lors de la fréquentation d'un restaurant prédit par les caractéristiques de la personnalité Big Five d'Extraversion et de Neuroticisme. Les résultats de l'analyse de régression montrent que la sensibilité au bruit et la gêne sonore sont des prédicteurs importants de l'anxiété autodéclarée. Le névrosisme prédit l'anxiété, tandis que l'extraversion et l'agréabilité ne prédisent pas uniquement l'anxiété. La consciencosité avait une relation négative significative avec l'anxiété ressentie lors des repas au restaurant. Les caractéristiques individuelles des expériences personnelles des clients des restaurants sont discutées, suggérant des implications en matière de conception et d'aménagement pour les restaurateurs afin de traiter les effets du bruit dans leurs établissements.
