接受造血細胞移植(HCT)的患者往往需要長期的住院治療，並面臨巨大的壓力。本研究運用打擊樂器來促進醫院腫瘤科住院病人的健康。 35名患者在住院治療期間被安排參加四次互動式的室內團體擊鼓（IGD）課程。研究人員帶領患者進行30分鐘的擊鼓課程；在每次課程前後，評估患者的精力、情緒、放鬆狀態、困擾、疼痛和焦慮。所有測量指標的平均得分在IGD後都比介入前提升。所有受試者都認為擊鼓課程提高了他們在住院期間的滿意度。在81%的課程中，受試者的精力得到改善，88%的人情緒有所進步，84%的人感到較為放鬆，49%的課程使患者疼痛感降低。在63%的課程中，參與者感到困擾減少了，焦慮感則降低了68%。研究建議這種簡單而獨特的輔助治療可以被納入在住院照護中，定期提供讓腫瘤患者參與。
