사회적 거리 두기는 치매 환자들과 그들의 돌봄제공자 사이의 고립을 야기한 COVID-19 팬데믹 발생에 따라 세계적으로 시행된 안전 예방 조치였다. 이러한 세계적 상황은 취약한 사람들을 지원해야 하는 필요성을 강화하도록 유도했다. 많은 음악 치료사들은 원격 의료 음악 치료를 제공함으로써 이러한 도전에 한 발 더 다가갔다. 이런 가운데 원격 의료는 새로운 의문을 제기하고 윤리적인 딜레마를 제시했다. 원격 의료가 새로운 것은 아니지만 팬데믹 이전에는 널리 실행되지는 않았었다. 수년 동안 치매 환자들과 그들의 돌봄제공자를 대상으로 일한 음악 치료사로서 잠시 멈춰 우리가 갔던 새로운 길에 대해 성찰해보고 우리가 배운 것을 공유하고, 이러한 서비스 제공에 대해 수용할 수 있어야 한다.
