정신적 질환이 대학생들 사이에서 자주 발생하나 정신 건강 문제가 있는 학생들 대다수는 학교생활을 하는 동안 치료를 받고자 하지 않는다. 본 연구의 목적은 4회기의 합창 세션에 참여한 대학생들의 자기보고 스트레스 수치와 타액 코티솔 수치를 통해 그룹 중재를 위한 새로운 접근법인 합창의 효과 및 스트레스에 잠재적으로 미칠 수 있는 영향을 평가하는 것이다. 이를 위해 25명의 브라질 대학생을 대상으로 유사 실험 연구를 실행하였다. 각각의 합창 세션은 60분간 실행되었으며, 중재 전후에 스트레스 수준에 대해 자기보고형으로 답하도록 하였다. 또한 중재 전후 타액 코티솔을 수집하였다. 합창 중재 후 자기 보고 스트레스(p<0.0001)와 타액 코티솔 수치(p<0.0001)가 통계적으로 유의미한 수준으로 감소한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 합창 세션 4주 이후에 대학생들의 자가보고 스트레스 수치가 ∆= 45.83%감소, 1주차에 타액 코티솔 수치가 ∆= 3.57% 감소하였음을 확인하였다.
