Efectos del canto coral sobre los niveles de cortisol en la saliva y el estrés autoinformado en estudiantes universitarios

Aunque los trastornos mentales son comunes entre los estudiantes universitarios, la mayoría de los estudiantes con problemas de salud mental no buscan tratamiento durante su vida académica. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar los efectos de un enfoque grupal novedoso, el canto coral, y su impacto potencial sobre el estrés, a través de los niveles de cortisol en saliva y los niveles de estrés autoinformado en estudiantes universitarios durante 4 sesiones de canto coral. Se basó en una investigación cuasi-experimental realizada con 25 estudiantes universitarios brasileños. Cada sesión de canto del coro duró 60 minutos. Se hizo una pregunta antes y después de la intervención: ¿cuál es el nivel de estrés? Se recogió cortisol en saliva antes y después de la intervención. Después de la intervención con canto en el coro, hubo una reducción estadísticamente significativa en el estrés autoinformado (p <0,0001) y los niveles de cortisol en saliva (p <0,0001). Esta investigación sugiere que el canto coral puede reducir el estrés autoinformado de los estudiantes universitarios después de 4 semanas de seguimiento con ∆ = 45,83% y los niveles de cortisol en saliva en la primera semana con ∆ = 3,57%.
