This article describes a new music psychotherapy approach for the clients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and negative life events. Over 5 years ago, I developed music entrainment and reprocessing (MER). Part 1 of this article is about the history and the procedure of MER, and part 2 is about the outcome of MER and a vignette is also included to show MER procedure.

Tian Gao, MMT, received his master’s degree in music therapy training and graduated from Temple University, Philadelphia, in 1994. He is a professor and the director of music therapy at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China.
