これまで行われてきた音楽や音楽療法の役割に関する研究は多くあるにも関わらず、慢性疼痛を抱える人々を対象にした音楽介入や音楽療法による健康やウェルビーイング関連の文献は数少ない。慢性疼痛患者に対する音楽療法の研究の進展を支援するため、著者らは、音楽、音楽療法、慢性疼痛に関するグループ(SIG:Special Interest group)を結成し定期的にミーティングを行った。音楽療法、コミュニティ音楽、疼痛医学、サービス利用者の視点を代表する5カ国の著者たちが、今後の研究で取り組むべき理論的·方法論的課題について議論した。本論文は、音楽療法と慢性疼痛における今後の研究の優先課題、倫理的課題、研究方法、実践技術、将来の優先分野に関して、我々の考えをまとめたものである。この論文は、慢性疼痛を抱える人々の治療とケアにおける音楽療法の質の高い研究と実践のための検討課題を提言するものである。
