מלזיה, המתאפיינת באוכלוסייה רב-אתנית המזדקנת במהירות, מתמודדת עם צורך הולך וגובר בטיפול בדמנציה המותאם מבחינה תרבותית. מחקר זה בחן את ההיתכנות של טיפול קבוצתי בהעלאת זיכרונות בסיוע מוזיקה חיה, תוך שימוש במוזיקה סינית בעלת רלוונטיות תרבותית משנות ה-40 ועד שנות ה-80 של המאה ה-20, במטרה לתמוך בשלושה צמדים של מלזים ממוצא סיני, שכל אחד מהם כלל אדם עם ירידה קוגניטיבית קלה (לקות קוגניטיבית קלה או דמנציה קלה) והמטפל העיקרי שלו. ההתערבות כללה מפגש יחיד בן 60 דקות, בהשתתפות רביעיית קלרינט מקצועית. הנתונים נאספו בנקודת הבסיס וכן שבוע וארבעה שבועות לאחר התוכנית. מדדי התוצאה כללו את שאלון המצאי הנוירופסיכיאטרי (Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire)  ,הגרסה המקוצרת של שאלון נטל הטיפול של Zarit (Zarit Burden Interview-Short),  וכלי להערכת ההיבטים החיוביים הנובעים מטיפול באדם עם מחלת אלצהיימר (Gain in Alzheimer Care Instrument), אשר העריכו, בהתאמה, את התסמינים הנוירופסיכיאטריים, את נטל הטיפול המוטל על המטפל העיקרי ואת ההיבטים החיוביים הנובעים מתפקיד הטיפול. הנתונים הכמותיים נותחו באמצעות מדדי שינוי מהימן, ואילו הנתונים האיכותניים שנאספו בראיונות מובנים למחצה נותחו באמצעות ניתוח תמטי אינדוקטיבי. בשני צמדים דווח על שיפור בתסמינים הנוירופסיכיאטריים, בצמד אחד דווח על ירידה בנטל הטיפול המוטל על המטפל העיקרי, ובצמד אחר דווח על עלייה בהיבטים החיוביים הנובעים מתפקיד הטיפול. מן הנתונים עלו ארבע תמות הנוגעות להשפעת התוכנית: (1) שיפור במצב הרוח והעלאת זיכרונות משמחים, (2) שיפור באיכות החיים, (3) שיקולים תרבותיים, ו-(4) שינויים במבנה התוכנית. מחקר זה מניח את התשתית לפיתוח קבוצות טיפול בהעלאת זיכרונות בסיוע מוזיקה חיה במלזיה ומצביע על כיוונים למחקר עתידי.

Yong Jia Lim is a clarinettist, performer-researcher, and Lecturer in Music at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology. His research primarily focuses on practice-led music performance research and historically informed performance practice, while also contributing to interdisciplinary research on music interventions and reminiscence studies.
