Abstract

 

Abstract: Orchestras are responding to changing demographics and concerns regarding inequality, poverty, community trauma and racial tensions by developing innovative community programs. My purpose in describing the two contrasting programs below is to illustrate the difference in the orchestra players’ effectiveness if they team with professionally trained music specialists. I will demonstrate that using specialists, particularly music therapists, to help plan and implement community programs enables them to be more effective in addressing community concerns.

Identificando preocupaciones comunitarias a través de la música

Las orquestas están respondiendo a los cambios demográficos y a las preocupaciones en relación a desigualdad, pobreza y traumas en la comunidad y tensiones raciales desarrollando programas innovadores para servir a la comunidad. Mi propósito a continuación es describir dos programas contrastantes para ilustrar la diferencias en la efectividad de los interpretes orquestales cuando tienen la posibilidad de armar equipo con músicos especialistas profesionales. Demostraré como trabajar junto a especialistas con experiencia y entrenamiento y en particular con musicoterapeutas que asisten con el planeamiento e implementación de los programas comunitarios, permite que ellos tengan mayor efectividad en identificar las problemáticas comunitarias.

Musik, um Sorgen innerhalb der Community anzugehen

Abstract:   Orchester antworten auf  sich die verändernde demographische Entwicklung und die Sorgen hinsichtlich Ungleichheit, Armut, Community-Traumen und rassistische Spannungen mit der Entwicklung innovativer Programme, die der Gemeinschaft dienen sollen. Meine Absicht bei der Beschreibung von zwei kontrastierenden Programmen ist, den Unterschied in der Effektivität von Orchestermusikern darzustellen, wenn sie in der Lage sind, mit professionell ausgebildeten Musikern zusammen zuarbeiten. Ich will zeigen wie sie, wenn sie mit mit Spezialisten insbesondere Musiktherapeuten die Erfahrung und Ausbildung darin haben, Community-Progamme zu planen und einzurichten, zusammenarbeiten, dazu befähigt werden, effektiver mit Community-Sorgen umzugehen.

Le Orchestre stanno rispondendo ai cambiamenti demografici e alle preoccupazioni riguardanti l’inuguaglianza, la povertà e le tensioni razziali, attraverso lo sviluppo di programmi innovative che servono la comunità.

Il mio scopo nel descrivere di seguito questi due programmi contrastanti è quello  di illustrare la differenza di efficacia dei membri dell’orchestra, quando sono in grado di collaborare con specialisti di musica professionalmente preparati. Io dimostrerò come lavorare al fianco di specialisti con esperienza e formazione, in particolare i musicoterapeuti, per aiutare a pianificare e attuare programmi comunitari, permetterà loro di essere più efficaci nell’affrontare le preoccupazioni della comunitá.

音楽を通したコミュニティ問題に対する取り組み

オーケストラは、変わりゆく人口統計や様々なコミュニティ問題(格差、貧困、地域的トラウマ、人種差別など)に関して、コミュニティに刷新的なプログラムを提供することで対応している。本研究の目的は、2つの異なるプログラムを紹介し、オーケストラ奏者と特別な訓練を受けた音楽専門職とがチームを組むことでもたらされる効果を検証する。経験豊富で且つ訓練を受けた専門職、特に音楽療法士とチームを組みながらコミュニティプログラムの計画/実施することを通して、コミュニティ問題に対して効果的なプログラムを可能にすることができた実例を考察する。

Emily Menhorn MT-BC is a graduate of Shenandoah University. She interned at UPMC Childrens Hospital in Pittsburgh and is currently working in a Contract Research position at Childrens Hospital at Oklahoma University Medical Center.
